Position Overview
You are an actuary that is passionate about experience studies and making data driven assumptions about what will happen in the future. Position Overview

As a Director in the Biometric Research department, you will be responsible for informing our business decisions across multiple lines of business in both Canada and the United States. You can look forward to analyzing some of the largest and richest datasets in the North American insurance industry, across individual life, critical illness, disability, and long term care products. You will collaborate with a talented team of professionals who share your passion for biometric research and experience studies
Your Role:
Individual and Group Insurance Business Lines

  • Lead and manage experience studies and assumption development projects across North America, focusing on mortality, morbidity, and lapse risks
  • Continuously review and improve our experience analysis and assumption development processes to ensure they remain best-in-class
  • Provide expert support to our Canadian pricing teams on new business quotes
  • Support our Enterprise Risk Management team in the development and refinement of economic capital models for biometric risks
  • Participate in and contribute to North American and Global Biometric Research initiatives, staying up-to-date on the latest trends
  • Provide actuarial and research support for underwriting
  • Provide peer reviews for other team members, to ensure high standards of quality and accuracy

Stakeholder Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with key stakeholders, including internal pricing and valuation teams
  • Deliver timely and effective support to internal clients, addressing their needs and expectations in a proactive and responsive manner
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers, influencing business outcomes through clear and effective communication of complex ideas and technical concepts
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and partnership, working closely with stakeholders to drive business growth and success

Project and People Management

  • Manage project resources, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring successful outcomes and high-quality results
  • Ensure direct report(s) have a clear understanding of corporate and departmental objectives, and are aligned with the company’s overall strategy and vision
  • Lead and develop direct report(s), providing challenging tasks and assignments, and supporting their career growth and development
  • Hire and develop top talent, building a team that is recognized as experts both internally and externally

Your Profile:

  • University Degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Statistics, or Mathematics
  • FSA and/or FCIA designation
  • 5-10 years of experience in the individual insurance/reinsurance industry
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects and direct report(s), with a strong track record of delivering results and driving business outcomes
  • Strong analytical skills. Comfortable working with complex calculations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts in a clear and accessible way.
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and effectiveness working under tight timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in Excel, SQL, R and/or Python is preferred.
  • Experience in statistical modelling and/or data analytics is an advantage.
