The Automation QE Lead/Manager will be responsible for designing and executing a robust automation testing strategy, leading a team of QA engineers, and ensuring high-quality software delivery through test automation. This hybrid Toronto-based role requires strong leadership, hands-on experience with automation frameworks, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to meet project goals.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Strategy & Execution:
- Define, develop, and implement test automation strategies and frameworks across applications.
- Create and maintain automation test plans and suites to support functional, regression, and performance testing.
- Select and integrate appropriate automation tools and technologies.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Lead a team of QA engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback.
- Ensure alignment of QA deliverables with overall product timelines and quality objectives.
- Facilitate training and development in automation testing best practices.
Collaboration & Quality Oversight
- Work closely with Product, Development, and DevOps teams to define quality requirements.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
- Analyze test results, track defects, and manage quality metrics reporting.
Process Improvement & Innovation
- Continuously improve QA processes, testing practices, and team workflows.
- Stay current with emerging trends in test automation, tools, and methodologies.
Technical Expertise
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 5+ years of QA experience with a focus on automation testing.
- Proficiency in automation frameworks and tools such as Selenium, TestNG, JUnit.
- Strong understanding of scripting languages (Java, Python, or similar).
- Experience with CI/CD tools and integration into automated testing pipelines.
Methodologies & Tools
- Solid grasp of SDLC and QA methodologies in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Familiarity with defect tracking tools (JIRA, TestRail, Zephyr, or similar).
- Experience working in hybrid or cloud-based environments.
Soft Skills
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Analytical mindset with a keen eye for detail and problem-solving.
- Ability to effectively manage a team and work cross-functionally.
