The Senior Geologist will play a key role in shaping the future success and growth of Greenfire. This position involves conducting in-depth geological and geophysical analysis to assess and optimize the potential of Greenfire’s current assets. Additionally, the role includes overseeing of drilling programs, planning and executing appraisal and development strategies, and providing management with recommendations regarding future exploration and acquisitions. This is a permanent, full-time position based at Greenfire Resources’ Calgary office, with occasional fieldwork as required.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the MANAGER – GEOSCIENCES
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Independently generate comprehensive geological interpretations using both established workflows and industry best practices.
- Collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams to provide recommendations on appraisal activity, delineation programs, development planning, and production optimization of SAGD assets.
- Oversee geological field operations during drilling and completions of delineation and SAGD programs.
- Prepare and present material to technical management, senior management, and JV partners.
- Work with regulatory on applications and yearly reporting as required.
Occasional travel to site as required
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILL SET:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology/Geoscience from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Active status as a Professional Geologist with APEGA in good standing.
- 5+ years of previous SAGD experience including planning and execution of delineation and SAGD programs.
- Knowledgeable of the stratigraphy of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, with focus on the McMurray Formation and Athabasca Oil Sands, including application of clastic sedimentology and sequence stratigraphic principles.
- Experience in the creation of technically sound geologic maps, cross sections, and depositional models.
- Proficient with Petrel and GeoScout software.
- Additional skills/experience in petrophysics and seismic interpretation is considered an asset.
- Proven team player who excels in an environment of diverse disciplines and backgrounds.
- Capacity to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances in a dynamic work environment with tight timelines.
- Demonstrate initiative in identifying and taking on projects and duties.
