Gannett Fleming is seeking a Senior Track Engineer to serve as a technical lead supporting large-scale track design in our Toronto office. Successful candidates must have knowledge and experience in railroad/transit planning, as well as conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design of rail transit and railroad alignments for transit systems.
Responsibilities include:
- Planning, organizing, and overseeing the work of a track design team in urban transit, intercity transit, and heavy rail systems.
- Designing complex track arrangements including special trackwork, maintenance and facility yards, embedded and direct fixation, along with conventional ballasted track systems.
- Composing project specifications, concept reports, design briefs, constructability reports, and additional technical reports.
- Preparing design calculations, developing optimization and analytical tools.
- Mentoring junior staff in software and analytical techniques.
- Preparing and monitoring scopes of work, methodologies, design reviews, scheduling, and presentations.
- Overseeing quality review processes for submittals.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university (Civil Engineering preferred).
- Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) license in Ontario.
- 10-15 years of experience in railroad engineering for light rail, heavy rail, or streetcar transit projects.
- Proven ability to lead design tasks on medium to large-scale transit/rail projects, with knowledge of track alignment and design.
- Understanding of track design relationships with systems engineering, drainage, utilities, and operations.
- Experience in designing large, complex transit and freight rail works, including complex alignments, rail yards, and facilities.
- Experience with execution and construction staging of rail/track works.
- Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams, manage client expectations, and deliver quality results.
- Proficiency in Civil3D and Open Rail; experience with MicroStation and InRoads/Rail Track (InRail) is a plus.
- Skilled in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of Local Agency Codes and Standards.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience mentoring junior staff.
