At Loblaw Digital, we know that our customers expect the best from us. Whether that means building the best, most innovative online shopping experiences, or designing an app that will impact the lives of people across the country, we’re up for the challenge. Loblaw Digital is responsible for building and operating the online businesses of Canada’s largest and most successful retailer. Based in downtown Toronto, we are an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, and collaborative team working towards transforming the way Canadians shop by creating leading eCommerce experiences in online grocery shopping, beauty, pharmacy, loyalty, and apparel spaces. We’re only just getting started!
To achieve these goals, we are looking for talented and passionate individuals who want to collaborate, solve challenging problems, and make a significant impact on Canadians. As a Staff Developer, you will work closely with Software Development Managers to oversee technology vision, software quality, and operational excellence. Partnering with Engineering leads, you will define technical metrics and outcomes for the teams to strive towards. Using your extensive knowledge and experience, you will work with other developers to foster their growth and abilities.
What you’ll do
- Take ownership of the technological vision, software quality, and operational excellence for the eCommerce platform teams, including architecture, metrics, and practices.
- Lead by example in building great software. Participate in coding, such as building proof of concepts, tackling bugs or features, and designing new features in an agile environment.
- Design and implement scalable and resilient systems to meet business needs.
- Coach and enhance the technical skills of multiple developer pods, providing mentorship especially to Senior Developers, and drive reviews of technical artifacts.
- Identify and advocate for improvements in technical processes to optimize team performance.
- Build strong relationships with developers and technologists across the organization, collaborating to find the best solutions, whether reusing standards or innovating processes and technology.
- Foster a culture of inclusivity and continuous improvement.
Does this sound like you?
- Extensive experience with Java, Kotlin, or similar backend languages and cloud-native microservices architecture.
- Proven track record with large, complex software systems across teams.
- Hands-on experience with event-driven architecture and solutions.
- Experience with RDMS, Streaming, and NoSQL databases at scale.
- Professional experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Built observable systems that track key metrics and addressed issues related to performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Self-starter with a passion for high-quality software in fast-paced, collaborative environments.
- Proficient in understanding new technology and communicating implications clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Comfortable making decisions amid ambiguity, using data from various sources for technology choices and designs.
- Excellent at explaining complex solutions simply and clearly, with organized and concise documentation.
- A thought leader who champions innovation and technology practice maturity.
