Squamish General Hospital Emergency Department (SGH ED) is seeking 2-3 locum physicians to work in the Emergency Department. The positions will be a mix of weekend, daytime and night shifts. There will be opportunities to pick up additional shifts. Shifts are remunerated on a fee for service basis through MSP, and there are additional funds through the Medical On call Availability Program (MOCAP) and Rural Emergency Enhancement Fee (REEF). These positions may be eligible for Rural Program funding, which is adjudicated on a case-by-case basis by the Ministry of Health.
Squamish General Hospital ED services a population of 24,000 with a 13 bed emergency department. The emergency physician also cross covers the acute medical inpatient unit and an adjoining long term care facility for emergency issues. The ED has approximately 20,000 visits per year. Currently the schedule has 3 shifts per day, all single physician coverage, however, this summer we will be trialing a 4th shift with double coverage during peak hours. Lab, x-ray and ultrasound are available on site; specialist consultation and CT are available at Lions Gate Hospital, which is a 45 minute EHS
