Description:
The Concordia Joint Replacement Group (CJRG) at Concordia Hospital, the Concordia Hip and Knee Institute, the University of Manitoba Department of Surgery, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) and Shared Health Manitoba Carlton Street, Winnipeg MB, R3C 5R9) is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time hip and knee adult reconstructions arthroplasty surgeon to assist in the expansion of the academic clinical and research program in arthroplasty in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The proposed starting date would be July 1, 2026, but is potentially negotiable. Main job duties include diagnose and treatment of diseases, prescribing medications and treatment, ordering lab tests and other diagnostic procedures, consulting with other physicians as required, which job duties encompass 70% of the position.
The successful candidate would also be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (or higher depending on current academic rank) and appointed as a geographical full-time member of the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, which job duties encompasses 30% of the position. Job duties are required in English.
The successful candidate will join an established and cohesive group of four other subspecialty-trained academic hip and knee arthroplasty surgeons. They will be expected to participate in an approximate 1-in-12 general orthopaedic call schedule as well as a 1-in-7 hip and knee arthroplasty-specific call schedule. Elective clinic and operating time will be provided. The position encompasses inpatient and ambulatory patient care responsibilities and requires individuals with clinal and teaching skills to further the aims of the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and tertiary care medicine. Teaching of medical students, orthopaedic residents and arthroplasty fellows affiliated with the University of Manitoba will form part of normal daily activities. As an academic group, the successful candidate will be expected to both participate in and lead specific research activities. To this end, candidates with an advanced degree supporting research and/or education will be given preference.

The CJRG is a high-volume arthroplasty group targeted to perform 3000 joint replacements annually. The majority of the hip and knee revision cases for the province of Manitoba and adjacent regions (approximately 1.6 million people) are performed by the group. In partnership with the Orthopaedic Innovation Centre, the team annual research budget ranges from $400,000-$700,000 per year with a mixture of industry, academic and government grants in addition to contract research. The research team includes clinical study coordinators, mechanical and bio-medical engineers. The team cohesiveness has been key to the success of the CJRG, and, therefore, the successful candidate must have a team-oriented approach to clinical and academic work and appropriate supportive skills to achieve these goals.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate must hold a Doctor of Medicine Degree with specialization in Surgery. The successful candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. They must have completed at least one year of fellowship training in hip and knee arthroplasty and must also be comfortable with community-level musculoskeletal trauma management.

Compensation:
Compensation is derived from a blending of fee-for-service income and a Minimum Income Guaranteed.
