We’re looking for a unicorn! As a Front-end Developer (WordPress and Squarespace) at Beacon Design Collective, you will play a pivotal role in delivering on-brand, polished and professional design solutions across various projects. Your responsibilities will encompass:
Front-end Web Development
- Collaborate with our web design team to ensure seamless integration of design and functionality.
- Utilize HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, alongside content management systems WordPress and SquareSpace, to transform design concepts into interactive, responsive web pages.
- Maintain websites using WordPress and Squarespace, ensuring a user-friendly and visually appealing experience.
- Optimize web assets for performance and user experience.
- Review and assess data/information from Google Analytics and Crazy Egg heat mapping software to inform decisions about user experience.
- Add alt tags, navigational features, and other accessibility features as requested by the Beacon team.
- Stay updated on design trends and industry best practices to ensure our designs remain fresh and effective.
What do you need to be a front end developer with us?
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the graphic design field.
- A compelling portfolio showcasing your design work, front-end development projects (including WordPress and Squarespace experience), and production design proficiency.
- Proficiency in graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, and Figma, etc.).
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, along with the ability to hand-code responsive web designs.
- Familiarity with content management systems, particularly WordPress and Squarespace.
- Impeccable attention to detail, coupled with a deep understanding of typography, color theory, and layout design.
- Outstanding communication skills and a collaborative approach within a remote team.
- Proactive and self-motivated work ethic, with a strong ability to manage your time, meet deadlines and work within allocated time frames.

Compensation.
$25-32 hr is what we’re thinking, but let’s talk about your experience and expectations around compensation, we’re creative! We also offer: a comprehensive and flexible benefits package, birthday off with pay, and other benefits and perks.
Commitment.Hours per week
This is a production design and front end development position that will be paid biweekly. We are looking for 25-40 hours of your time each week and have flexible start and end times. We are currently doing half day Fridays.
Availability
The expectation is that the production designer and front end developer will be available to work Monday to Friday with a minimum team overlap of 10:00am-2:00pm PST Monday through Thursday. Outside of the mandatory team overlap, your hours are flexible.
Time off
We do have holidays. We are closed between December 24 and January 2 annually. We are also closed on all statutory holidays. We encourage team vacation periods in the summer and January as these are our slower seasons. Furthermore, we are comfortable with vacation days as needed. Again, let’s communicate!
Overtime
On the rare occasion that our production designer and front end developer is needed on the weekend or after 6:00pm, you will be asked first and you will be compensated +50% of your hourly rate for the after hours work.

We’re The Beacon Design Collective Inc., a team of creatives that creates buy-in for our nonprofit clients. We do this through beautiful, effective design and thoughtful, concise storytelling. We also have three results-oriented service packages that promise to increase the website donation rates of our clients. These packages are new and we are marketing them now. Our clients include the City of Vancouver, Métis Nation Alberta, the Working Families Party, Black Fly Environmental, Kinship Heals, and more.
