Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead Mining

BBA is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead for mine process plants to support our continued growth in Western Canada. The selected candidate will play a key role in all phases of engineering projects from front end-studies through to field implementation with a focus on detailed engineering. As a senior member of the mechanical engineering team, the candidate will be responsible for ensuring technical quality, developing new business opportunities, and fostering team development.

  • Develop mechanical scopes of work, budgets, and proposals.
  • Perform high-level engineering on major mechanical packages such as crushing and grinding circuits, flotation circuits, leaching circuits, and dewatering.
  • Lead mechanical scope on conceptual design studies, pre-feasibility studies, feasibility studies, and detailed engineering.
  • Be a key team member for small to major brownfield/greenfield mining projects.
  • Participate in site visits, inspections, condition assessments, commissioning, and testing (site visits will typically be 3-10 days at a time, up to twenty-five days a year; these numbers are negotiable during the interview process).
  • Provide mentorship and coaching of junior/intermediate engineers, actively sharing knowledge, and supporting the enhancement of skills within the team.

  • Prefer a company focused on engineering over construction (BBA does detailed engineering and EPCM projects; we do not do EPC projects).
  • Overview of certifications and job requirements:
  • Proven track record with strong technical skills as a Mechanical Engineer on mineral process plant projects.
  • Ability to interpret PFDs and process design criteria from process engineering, oversee plant layouts, mechanical equipment selection, technical bid evaluation and validation, and pump sizing.
  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 12+ years of relevant engineering experience in the mining sector, with a preference for 5+ years in consulting.
  • Must be a registered P.Eng in Canada.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Available for site work and short-term assignments (3-10 days at a time, up to twenty-five days a year).
  • Asset: Experience in base and precious metals.
