The Opportunity:

At Canadian Natural, we are currently seeking an experienced Geophysicist with strong technical and communication skills to join the Thermal Exploration team. We are looking for an individual who will be a key player within a dynamic and collaborative group of professionals focused on using geophysical expertise to provide integrated seismic interpretations. The role will support current and future development projects with the goal of optimizing and expanding thermal bitumen production.

  • Job location: Calgary, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 5 x 2, 8-hour shifts (Monday to Friday)
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities:

  • Work in a team environment including Geoscientists and Engineers to identify and progress growth opportunities within Canadian Natural’s Thermal portfolio (SAGD, CSS, and Steamflood)
  • Perform high quality interpretation of 2D, 3D, and 4D seismic volumes integrated with geological mapping and engineering data for detailed reservoir characterization and production optimization
  • Provide seismic support for the planning and execution of multiple drilling programs including stratigraphic test wells and horizontal production and injection wells
  • Working alongside Canadian Natural’s seismic operations and technical support teams, recommend and manage the planning, acquiring, and processing Q.C. of seismic programs to support the business needs of the asset team

What You Bring to The Role:

  • 5 + years of petroleum geophysics experience with a Bachelor of Science in Geophysics
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA is required
  • Demonstrated skills with problem-solving, communication, organization, and the ability to work in a high pace team environment
  • Strong seismic interpretation skills including proficiency with Petrel and Seisware
  • Demonstration of fundamental seismic interpretation skills including synthetic well ties & modelling, horizon and amplitude mapping, time-to-depth conversion, and various seismic attribute analysis techniques
  • Working knowledge of AVO/inversion techniques and 4D seismic workflows is considered an asset
