This position’s term is May 1, 2025 to August 29, 2025 and location is flexible, within Alberta, dependent on the successful applicant. However, periodically may be asked to work in other AFSC branches. Travel in these circumstances will be reimbursed according to AFSC’s Employee and Board of Directors Expense Policy.
Reporting to the Manager of Business Intelligence, the Data Science Summer Student will be working in a team environment contributing to the Advanced Analytics Initiatives. Primary responsibilities include:
- Identify and perform exploratory data analysis on the ML use cases
- Explore external data sources relevant to the organization and provide recommendations
- Support other BI and AI/ML initiatives within the organization
Over the summer, you will develop a level of familiarity with all AFSC programs and processes, while gaining experience with the data and its business use.
Minimum Requirements:
Candidate should be either enrolled in, registered to attend, or attending a post-secondary institution in the fall of 2025 within computer science, mathematics or data science programs and must possess strong analytical and programming skills.
- Preference will be given to those with experience in data science
- Preference will be given to those with prior experience in Python
- Experience in statistical software specifically SAS will be considered an asset
- Experience and understanding of geospatial data will be an asset
- Experience in the agricultural industry will be considered an asset
