Are you looking to join a team of human factors and end user advocates shaping the future of Army Communications through an iterative user-centred design process? We currently have a new opportunity for a Senior Human Factors Engineer to join our team. Working with a team of human factors, user experience experts, and designers, you will define the problem space and end user needs while advocating and expressing those needs to the engineering and development community. You will make decisions based on human factors principles, research and usability testing for military systems, ensuring the soldiers have the tools they need to be effective. The end result is an iterative user-centred design process to ensure usable interfaces; which need to be effectively communicated through written and verbal presentations to the design teams and customers.

You will have experience in:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Design, Psychology Kinesiology, Computer Science, Systems Design, Ergonomics, or related discipline with course work in human factors engineering/ergonomics/human computer interaction.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Human Factors, Human Systems, Human Computer Interaction, or as a UX Researcher or UX Architect.
  • Able to lead a UX design effort based on Human Factors Analysis to identify end user needs (Task Analysis, Workload, End User Analysis) from concept to implementation.
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders to plan research so we can better understand our users and reveal new opportunities.
  • Employing human factors principles, standards, and research to a design to ensure a more effective and usable user interface.
  • Communicating the system design and/or user interface design both written, verbally and to advocate for a design within an integrated design team environment to ensure the end user needs are met.
  • Planning, and Executing User Analysis (innovation in design, personas, function analysis, task analysis etc.) and Usability Test events with the end user community.
  • Experience in analyzing the results and creating artefacts illustrating the end user needs and recommendations for design. Once issues and improvements have been identified, working with the design teams by advocating for priorities of the required changes.

Ideally you may also have some of the following:

  • Guide research activities to define current customer pain points and map ideal future experiences.
  • Familiar with executing Human Factors or UX in an agile environment.
  • Familiarity with design guidelines and standards (MIL-STD 1472, ISO and ANSI standards).
  • Work in formal human factors environments or familiar with design in complex systems or products.
  • Help define product requirements and understand user workflows to assist design and product teams in iterating through product discovery.
  • Development of or support of Human Factors artefacts and design prototypes in a variety of mediums and fidelity as appropriate.
  • Creates and supports innovative and effective end user interfaces as part of a team and able to communicate design rationale.
  • Moderate workshops, in-person interviews, and remote sessions.
  • Facilitate research through collection, analysis and producing insights to lead the team towards better user outcomes.
  • Prepare recommendations and deliver presentations to influence and guide key stakeholders to better understand.
  • Establishes and maintains strong internal and external relationships
  • Willingness for occasional travel.
