Associate Technical Design Director
As an Associate Technical Design Director at Ubi MTL, you serve as the link between a design vision and its technical implementation.
You possess a high-level understanding of our technology, along with visibility on the overall project, providing expert insights, tools, and support to guide a game and its creators towards success.
While each development day presents unique challenges, you maintain focus on the big picture. As a strategic thinker and tactical planner, you balance short-term priorities with long-term goals, efficiently managing obstacles while considering the future impact of your decisions.

What you’ll do
- Collaborate with core team members to develop the overall vision and assess the technical feasibility of your area (e.g., AI, missions, worlds, cinematics).
- Identify and analyze risks related to engine, data, features, etc.
- Evaluate existing tools and design custom solutions to support design pipelines and workflows.
- Train team members on tools and techniques, raising awareness of new processes.
- Assist content creators with technical needs and facilitate communication between design and programming teams.
- Review and provide input on integrated work, and troubleshoot bugs.
- Maintain technical documentation such as procedures and guides.
- Prepare post-mortems and recommend improvements for data creation and integration processes.
- Stay updated on technological advancements and market trends to define best practices and share them across studios.
- Participate in recruitment efforts to build and grow the technical design team.
Qualifications
- A college diploma in Game Design or related field (an undergraduate degree is a plus).
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in the video game industry or related fields, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Deep knowledge of game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal) and their limitations, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
- Familiarity with bug tracking software (e.g., Jira), version control systems (e.g., Perforce), and basic programming skills.
- An innovative, collaborative, empathetic, and solution-focused mindset.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, mentorship, and presentation skills.
- Strong critical thinking, time management, and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail, curiosity, resourcefulness, and flexibility.
