Position Description

Brook McIlroy is a progressive multi-disciplinary practice that approaches design and planning from a broad, holistic perspective. As planners, urban designers, architects, landscape architects, and interior designers, we endeavor to address the complexity of communities, cities and the diverse, interconnected natural and human-made ecologies we inhabit. We are a diverse array of talented people in Toronto, Thunder Bay, and Winnipeg, working on projects that span from large-scale urban visions to the detailed design of buildings, landscapes, civic infrastructure and public art. A specific focus of our practice is led by Indigenous architects, artists and planners through the Indigenous Design Studio.

This role combines project management with technical expertise and client relationship building, requiring a strong background in landscape architecture and collaboration with diverse design professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Management: Lead projects from concept design to realization, ensuring timely completion and adherence to budget and quality standards.
  2. Client Management: Develop and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication, stakeholder engagement, and project delivery.
  3. Collaboration: Work closely with architects, urban designers, planners, engineers and other design professionals to ensure integrated project solutions.
  4. Technical Skills: Proficient in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite. Experience with GIS and 3D modelling (Rhino) and other tools is an asset.
  5. Research and Analysis: Conduct site inventory, documentation, and analysis to inform design decisions.
  6. Design Development: Participate in design development, ensuring that projects meet sustainability, accessibility, and cultural sensitivity standards.
  7. Contract/Construction Administration: Oversee the preparation and administration of contracts and construction documents. Coordinate construction to ensure compliance, including manage and resolve site issues, and facilitate communication between clients, contractors, and project team members.

About You:

  1. Education: Bachelor or Master degree in Landscape Architecture from an institution recognized by the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects (OALA).
  2. Experience: 5-7 years of professional experience in landscape architecture, with a focus on project management and client relations.
  3. Certifications: Eligibility for or current status as a Full Member of OALA is preferred.
  4. Licensing : You possess a valid OntarioClass G driver’s licenseand are comfortable traveling for site visits and meetings as required.

  8. Experience with project coordination and team collaboration.
  9. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  10. Proficiency in technical design software.
