Position Overview
Reporting to the Non-Par Valuation Actuary, the Non-Par Trad and Living Benefits Line Actuary is responsible for directing the activities of nine actuarial staff within the ASSC and MBPS. The Line Actuary manages actuarial reserves for Traditional Life, Performax Gold, Critical Illness, and Disability lines, prepares quarterly earnings drivers (DOE), oversees modeling activities, and provides actuarial advisory support for the Retail business. The role requires collaboration across organizational levels and managing conflicting stakeholder priorities. The Actuary leads a team of professionals, encouraging innovation and embracing new processes and technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee quarterly driver of earnings for Trad, PGold, CI, and DI lines.
- Oversee IFRS 17 reserve calculations.
- Manage quarterly LICAT insurance risk and interest rate risk calculations.
- Provide analysis and commentary on reserve and capital results.
- Guide financial reporting and disclosures, including sensitivities and the Appointed Actuary’s Report.
- Participate in project teams for pricing, new products, and in-force initiatives.
- Manage timely delivery of actuarial work products.
- Contribute to leadership team goals, process improvements, and best practices.
- Build relationships with management, including CFOs and the VP & Chief Actuary.

- Lead and develop a team of actuarial professionals.
- Make employment, compensation, and performance decisions.
- Support a creative and high-performance environment.
- Mentor junior team members.
Qualifications
- Results-oriented with ability to manage expectations and deadlines.
- Actuarial designation (FSA, FCIA, ASA) with 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Technical expertise in actuarial data review and analysis.
- Independent, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Effective under pressure, confident, persistent.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and influence skills.
- Excellent communication skills for complex concepts.

Additional Information
This is a hybrid role (Tues, Wed, Thurs in-office), open to any Canadian location.
Salary range: $105,750 – $190,350 CAD. Contact for regional salary info outside Toronto.
