Job Type: Regular, Full-Time
Wage: $62.13 – $68.10 per hour

The Staff Pediatric Perfusionist is responsible for all duties related to the care of patients requiring specialized pediatric/neonatal cardiac bypass or extracorporeal life support. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of specialized pediatric/neonatal equipment, supplies, and techniques which are unique to the care of the pediatric/neonatal patient requiring life-supporting cardiac or respiratory support.
What you’ll do
- Apply in-depth knowledge of complex pediatric/neonatal congenital heart disease to perform patient calculations, set up primes, operate and maintain specialized pediatric/neonatal equipment required for patients requiring surgical procedures or extracorporeal life support.
- Monitor physiological responses to cardiopulmonary bypass by monitoring flows and pressures, collecting and analyzing blood samples, and monitoring laboratory results.
- Maintain specialized pediatric cardiovascular perfusion or related equipment in collaboration with Biomedical Engineering, following manufacturer guidelines.
- Collaborate with the pediatric interprofessional care team to evaluate and trial pediatric/neonatal extracorporeal life support and perfusion equipment.
- Participate in education and training of new hires and students, demonstrating pediatric/neonatal procedures and equipment, and teaching about disease processes specific to this population.
- Contribute to research efforts to improve care for pediatric/neonatal patients needing extracorporeal support or cardiac bypass, collaborating with interprofessional teams.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you bring
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited cardiovascular perfusion program; plus one year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Eligible for certification with the Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion or equivalent.
- Completion of BC Children’s Hospital 12-month in-house pediatric/neonatal perfusion education pathway within 12 months of hire.

- Commitment to reconciliation and understanding of Indigenous issues and anti-racism.
