The Opportunity
The Shared Services Department is a collection of centers of excellence providing operational and strategic oversight and support to ensure the seamless delivery of programs and services across the organization in the areas of finance, people and culture, and marketing and communications. This department enhances organizational efficiency, promotes consistency, and enables frontline teams to focus on mission-driven work. Through collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to service excellence, Shared Services plays a vital role in strengthening the organization’s capacity to meet its strategic goals and deliver impact in communities across Canada.
The Project Manager, Strategic Initiatives is accountable for the successful planning and delivery of large-scale projects to meet strategic organizational objectives, while providing project management leadership and support across the organization. The Project Manager, Strategic Initiatives will be responsible for planning, orchestrating, and executing projects from initiation to completion, with a focus on delivering value.
What You’ll Do
- Advise the Executive Sponsor/Project Lead during the project intake process to ensure project alignment and resource capacity.
- Continue to develop the idea progression process and prioritization processes for the organization.
- Lead, support, and motivate cross-functional project teams to deliver agreed-upon project benefits within the agreed time, cost, scope, and quality restraints.
- Manages projects from conception to fruition efficiently, leveraging financial and project management tools and technology to organize, inform, and report on projects.
- Ensure projects align with organizational goals and deliver intended outcomes within scope.
- Ensure financial accountability and on-time delivery of strategic milestones and initiatives.
- Monitor and track project expenses and address any discrepancies in a timely manner
- Develop clear, impactful Board materials to support strategic initiatives.
- Support the implementation of robust organization-wide project approval, governance, and communication practices
- Implement knowledge sharing and controlled project closure processes.
- Maintain high levels of stakeholder engagement across all project work to realize expressed project benefits through project buy-in and support, able to influence key stakeholders throughout the project
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal/external stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress, risks, and changes
- Collaboratively plan and execute communications/change management plans for all project work within assigned portfolios to facilitate stakeholder engagement
- Identify, assess, and manage project risks and implement strategies to minimize their impact on project timelines and deliverables
- Proactively communicate risks and potential issues to stakeholders and recommend appropriate actions
- Support the organization to develop and implement a project management learning strategy throughout the Pathways to Education network.
- Provide mentorship to expand project management as an organization-wide capability.
What You Bring
- 8+ years’ experience planning and implementing projects of various sizes and methodologies, with at least 3 years’ experience successfully leading enterprise-wide projects and change management strategies.
- PMP certification is required.
- Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment, demonstrating teamwork, innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Brings a purpose-driven, mission-oriented mindset with a strong commitment to creating meaningful, long-term community impact.
- Ability to consistently manage projects to successful outcomes, lead teams, problem solve, manage risk, and budget or resource responsibility in a variety of business disciplines.
- Strong analytical, strategic, and critical-thinking skills to identify opportunities for strategic value creation in the context of enterprise projects and related initiatives
- Customer-service-focused mindset with an ability to rally people around a common goal.
- Experience guiding cross-functional teams with various levels of project management knowledge through project processes and influencing project team members without formal authority.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to interact with people from all disciplines and all levels of experience.
- Ability to effectively deal with a variety of stakeholders, navigate ambiguous, changeable, complex environments, and achieve desired outcomes.
- Attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including working knowledge of project management software, preferably ClickUp.
- Experience in the nonprofit sector is an asset.
- Bilingualism in English and French is an asset.
