The Role
Reporting to the Head of Legal, Americas, you will assist with day-to-day operations and provide legal support in in the areas of contract negotiation/management, compliance, risk management, OHS, and employment law.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide support and advice with respect to general corporate governance, regulatory filings, and compliance with local and international laws (e.g., anti-bribery, competition law)
- Assist with pre- and post-closing acquisition matters and cross-border operations.
- Contribute to various legal matters as needed, including contracts, employment, tax, and intellectual property.
- Develop and deliver training programs on legal and compliance topics on an as needed basis.
- Monitor changes in legislation relevant to the company’s operations and ensure the timely implementation of compliance measures.
- Provide support with respect to a wide range of commercial contracts including, but not limited to, professional services agreements, subcontractor agreements, employment contracts, and NDAs.
- Provide advice regarding occupational health and safety requirements, policies, and risk management.
- Provide legal support with respect to investigations, audits, and disputes related to environmental or workplace safety breaches.
- Assist in navigating regulatory frameworks and liaise with counsel and government agencies when needed.
- Assist with implementation and compliance matters relating to corporate policies and procedures.
Working @ SLR
This is a full-time, 6-month contract, ideally based out of our Calgary or Edmonton offices with flexible working arrangements.
Qualifications, Skills, And Experience
- A Canadian called lawyer with 10+ years of in-house experience (US call is an asset)
- Corporate / commercial experience within the energy or mining sectors is preferable
- Experience in insurance, environmental, employment, and OHS is an asset
- Robust knowledge of current legal frameworks, regulatory requirements, industry standards, and compliance matters.
- Proven proficiency in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating diverse legal documents, including complex RFPs, contracts, commercial documents, and corporate policies.
- Exceptional analytical skills, sound judgment, and the highest standards of professional ethics and integrity.
- An unwavering commitment to internal risk management, compliance, and proactive legal strategy.
- Demonstrated experience cultivating and maintaining strong professional relationships to advance strategic goals of the organization.
