Job Description:
Role Summary
The AVP, High Net Worth (HNW) Sales Effectiveness role will report to the VP, Insurance Distribution, and will enhance Sun Life’s presence in the HNW market and build stronger connections with those advisors – obtaining a higher share of their premium. To deliver on that, the incumbent will also be accountable for revamping and enhancing sales effectiveness through sales team development and advisor business management practices.
What will you do?
HNW Advisor Practice Development (30%)
- Defining and continuously assessing Insurance Distribution’s (ID) Value Proposition to HNW advisors and firms.
- Identify and propose initiatives to create efficiencies, improve processes/service, and better support growth with HNW advisors.
- Leads the development and evolution of best practices and development programs to align with the advisor and firm strategy, and to grow the HNW advisor market.
- Collaborate with the Business Growth and Insurance Solutions Enablement teams on the development of the content and material.
Sales Team Effectiveness (40%)
- Owns overall skills development and training for the distribution team.
- Executes sales skills development training.
- Leads the creation of onboarding program for new employees.
- Oversees Ascend program management.
- Creates and manages a distribution development program, specifically designed to enhance sales team capabilities working with the HNW market.
- Provides the distribution team with tools to support the advisors needs.
- Reviews and supports development of enhanced Business & Marketing Plans
- Owns the development of best practices for sales team in the HNW market.

HNW Market Strategy (20%)
- Meeting with High Net Worth (HNW) advisors and firms, identifying the evolving needs for practice development in alignment with ID’s Value Proposition.
- Accountable for HNW market segment of the Distribution Strategy – propose sales opportunities and initiatives to close gaps on increasing market share.
- Assesses and identifies sales opportunity and potential with key HNW advisor and firm relationships – proposes and evolves long-term strategy to increasing Sun Life share of business.
Talent & Brand Management (10%)
- Lead and coach a team of training and development professionals to execute on advisor and sales team development programs.
- Actively promote Sun Life brand and community image to attract talent, and advisor and firm partners.
What do you need to succeed?
- Experienced sales leader, working with HNW advisors and firms.
- Intricate knowledge of the HNW advisor sales experience
- Ability to vision the business strategy to work in the HNW market.
- Quantify market and sales potential.
- Experienced in analyzing and solving complex business problems with creativity, critical thinking and strong business and financial acumen.
- Experience leading high performing teams and learning and development professionals.
- Deep understanding of channels, advisor practices and influencing sales team.
- Highly motivated to support sales goals and growth targets.
- 15+ years working with HNW advisors
- As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only as the position includes managing both French and English-speaking staff (Quebec and outside Quebec) and providing daily support to the team.
