About The Role
We are looking for candidates with a passion for solving new and difficult problems with data. In this role, you will be able to use your strong quantitative skills in the fields of machine learning, statistics, and/or operations research to improve the Uber user experience as well as the overall marketplace performance. You’ll be joining the Driver Pricing team to design, evaluate, and build our systems for pricing trips for drivers.
As a Senior Scientist, you will solve key business problems including designing pricing structures for drivers, measuring causal impacts of offer pricing, and creating ML-driven optimizations for marketplace growth. You will work closely with product, engineering, and operations on new product launches, experiment design, and algorithm development. We are a fast-moving team and are looking for creative and curious minds to join us!
What You’ll Do
- Build statistical, optimization, and machine learning models for applications including pricing, product UI, and experimentation.
- Work with engineers and product managers to turn data science prototypes into robust, reliable solutions.
- Use data to understand product performance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Solve ambiguous, challenging business problems using data-driven approaches.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop technical vision, methodological approaches, and drive team direction.
- Develop new methodologies for data science including modeling, coding, analytics, optimization, and experimentation.
- Collaborate with teams such as product, engineering, operations, and marketing to drive system development from conceptualization to final product.
Basic Qualifications
- Ph.D., M.S., or Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or related fields.
- Minimum 2 years of industry experience as an Applied or Data Scientist or equivalent.
- Proficiency in Python or R for working with large datasets.
- Experience designing experiments and interpreting results for actionable insights.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills to lead initiatives and communicate findings effectively.
- Experience leading technical projects and influencing scope and outcomes.
- Knowledge of experimental design, exploratory data analysis, and model development.
- Experience with qualitative research communication.
- Ability to engage with senior leadership and build consensus.
- Strong ML skills and a solid background in mathematics and statistics.
- Programming skills in Python (preferred), R, Java, Go, Scala.
- Expertise in areas like Deep Learning, ML System Design, A/B testing, Causal Inference.
- Experience with large datasets using Spark, Hive, HDFS is a plus.
- Ability to analyze large data sets to identify trends and behaviors.
- Leadership in driving projects from concept to production.
Additional Information
For Canada-based roles: The salary range is CAD$164,000 to CAD$182,000 per year, including bonus, equity, and benefits. More details can be found at Uber Careers Benefits .
