FBR Recruitment is looking for an experienced Health and Safety Advisor to work on a construction project in the Southampton area. The role will require monitoring of a principal contractor, and the candidate must be able to act on behalf of the client while maintaining a collaborative and positive relationship with the contractor. The successful candidate must be able to work independently .

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Supporting business unit directors in delivering business objectives;
  2. Monitoring and working with the principal contractor appointed to complete the project;
  3. Attending regular meetings with the principal contractor;
  4. Providing support and assistance to the principal contractor and contractors on site;
  5. Positively engaging with our client and developing, growing, and maintaining our relationship;
  6. Delivering a high-quality service that meets our client’s requirements;
  7. Managing the client’s health and safety obligations on the project;
  8. Advising and assisting the client with their duties under the CDM regulations and other health and safety standards, regulations, and legislations;
  9. Assisting with the coordination of health and safety aspects of design work;
  10. Cooperating with others involved in the project;
  11. Facilitating good communication between the client, designers, and contractors;
  12. Liaising with the principal contractor regarding ongoing design work;
  13. Producing and presenting regular reports to our main client, including prompt flash reports of major issues and comprehensive weekly and monthly reports detailing all aspects of health and safety management on site;
  14. Advising directors promptly of any issues that have arisen or will arise, especially those impacting Gleeds’ professional indemnity (PI) insurance.

Key Skills:

  • Minimum of 4 years construction-related health and safety management experience post-Tech IOSH qualification;
  • Experience delivering services on a live construction site;
  • Cohesive knowledge of construction methods and materials;
  • Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience of construction-related health and safety management;
  • Thorough understanding of health and safety legislation relating to construction;
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written;
  • Methodical approach to work;
  • Good problem-solving, negotiating, financial, and numeracy management skills;
  • Ability to prepare first-class bids for services;
  • Proficient ICT skills, including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and lead teams.

Qualifications:

  • NEBOSH Construction and General Certificates / Tech IOSH minimum (considered with relevant experience and other qualifications);
  • NEBOSH Diploma / CMIOSH.
