Job Summary
Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Registered Nurse will adhere to the standards of care for Neonatal Nursing Practice as outlined by the National Association of Neonatal Nurses and supported by the Provincial Council for Maternal and Child Health (PCMCH).
- Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, evaluate, and document developmentally appropriate care.
- Provide support, education, and information to parents and coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team.
- Support the principles of Patient-Focused Care and uphold the Mission and Values of Sunnybrook, practicing within the standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Qualifications and Skills
- Current registration with the Ontario College of Nurses.
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred.
- Level II or Level III NICU experience, including ventilator support, central lines, IV medication administration, fluid management, and breastfeeding promotion.
- Pass a Sunnybrook NICU knowledge test with a score of 75% or higher.
- Complete a Level III neonatal course within two years of hire or demonstrate commitment.
- Completion of S.T.A.B.L.E course within one year preferred.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification or ongoing process.
- Breastfeeding course completion or in progress.
- Experience in promoting person-centered care and breastfeeding principles.
- Ongoing participation in continuous learning.
- Excellent communication skills with medical teams, patients, and families.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills.
- Critical thinking and ability to handle stress positively.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
