We’re currently seeking a skilled Life, Disability, and Critical Illness Underwriting Co-Signer to join our dynamic Affinity Underwriting Team. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with underwriters to evaluate and approve insurance applications, ensuring each offer is both competitive and aligned with strong risk management practices. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring and coaching junior staff, sharing your knowledge to help them grow and succeed.

This is a remote position open to candidates located anywhere in Canada.
Responsibilities

  • Select and classify risks in line with Manulife’s philosophy and standards.
  • Deliver excellent customer service, building positive relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and consumer regulations related to risk classification, privacy, and disclosure.
  • Identify and solve work-related challenges and improve procedures.
  • Support team goals and promote trust and confidence with customers to facilitate decision acceptance.
  • Act as a cosigner for underwriters, providing guidance on complex cases.
  • Underwrite and assess Life, Critical Illness, and Disability Insurance applications within your approval limits.
  • Serve as a trainer and mentor to underwriters, supporting their development and technical skills.
  • Share knowledge on underwriting trends, medical developments, and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional underwriting experience.
  • Approval limits of at least $5,000,000 in Life Insurance, $1,000,000 in Critical Illness Insurance, and $15,000 in Disability Insurance.
  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy, medical terminology, diseases, diagnostic tests, and treatment modalities.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and train underwriters.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt to change.
  • Familiarity with pricing tools, systems, and underwriting philosophies.
  • Enrollment in or interest in completing LOMA and/or ALU courses.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working towards or completion of FALU, FLMI, and ACS designations
  • Bilingual (French & English) is an asset – If located in Québec, proficiency in both languages is required to support clients across Canada
  • A university or college degree in a related discipline is considered an asset

Salary range is expected to be between
$80,700.00 CAD – $145,260.00 CAD
