Description

The Office of the Provost and Vice President (Academic) is currently seeking a full-time, regular Executive Director .

As a key member of the Provost Team, the Executive Director provides high-level strategic advice and institutional insight to the Provost, contributing to decision-making on academic policies, administrative management, and institutional initiatives. The role is also accountable for designing, implementing, and overseeing efficient administrative systems within the Office of the Provost, ensuring consistency across the portfolio and institutionally.

In collaboration with the Provost, this position will resolve issues and lead initiatives with positive impact and minimal disruption, working closely with Deputy Provost, Vice-Provosts, Deans, Directors, and senior administrators. Responsibilities include providing strategic counsel, analysis, and developing policies and procedures.

The Executive Director exercises professional judgment, briefs the Provost when necessary, and uses extensive knowledge of the Office of the Provost and the University’s strategic goals to guide decision-making, alerting the Provost to opportunities and threats.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Workforce planning to support the Office’s objectives
  • Oversee search and review processes for Deans, Vice-Provosts, etc.
  • Prepare the Provost for meetings and engagements with briefing notes and strategic advice
  • Monitor campus and external developments impacting the portfolio
  • Manage service delivery of staff, providing direction and support
  • Recruit, train, support, and evaluate staff, fostering innovation
  • Address sensitive and time-critical issues affecting the University
  • Develop strategies and ensure due diligence on issues
  • Collaborate with senior administration on portfolio issues
  • Resolve workflow and resource allocation issues
  • Develop communication strategies for the portfolio
  • Align Office objectives with the University’s strategic plans
  • Manage the annual budget for the Office of the Provost and reporting units
  • Ensure timely and appropriate communication representing the Office and University

Qualifications / Requirements include:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or similar
  • 10+ years in senior management within a large academic institution
  • Deep understanding of the University’s mission, structure, and policies
  • Proven success in strategic collaboration, negotiation, and diplomacy
  • Ability to interpret policies and advise at all levels
  • Strong analysis, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities
  • Decisiveness, independence, and judgment
  • Teamwork and high energy
