This is an exciting opportunity to join the Platform Financial Control team for RBC Capital Markets. As the Associate Director, Wholesale Financial Control, you will lead a team of finance and accounting professionals to ensure a robust and effective controls and governance framework for wholesale finance. You will partner with global finance teams (Canada, US, UK and APAC) to establish best practices, improve processes and be encouraged to lead projects with an aim to streamline and automate processes while continuously enhancing the control environment. This is a high-profile people manager role that offers significant visibility with senior management and an opportunity to collaborate with diverse functional stakeholder across business lines.

Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Platform Financial Control team for RBC Capital Markets. As the Associate Director, Wholesale Financial Control, you will lead a team of finance and accounting professionals to ensure a robust and effective controls and governance framework for wholesale finance. You will partner with global finance teams (Canada, US, UK and APAC) to establish best practices, improve processes and be encouraged to lead projects with an aim to streamline and automate processes while continuously enhancing the control environment. This is a high-profile people manager role that offers significant visibility with senior management and an opportunity to collaborate with diverse functional stakeholder across business lines.
What will you do?

  • Lead a talented and motivated team in overseeing the Capital Markets control environment by monitoring controls and governance processes, proactively identifying issues, partnering with stakeholders to resolve weaknesses and guide the implementation of new controls.
  • Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with global finance teams, CFO Controls Office, and other finance stakeholders to streamline the sharing of financial information and leverage best practices to improve processes across all regions.
  • Inspire your team in simplifying and enhancing existing control oversight reporting, while staying agile by adapting to changing business needs and reporting requirements.
  • Manage the control environment oversight risk rating processes across various regions and lines of businesses, providing senior management with consolidated insights on key risk areas and opportunities.
  • Manage and review process for journal entries under your purview, verify reconciliations, standards of documentation and monthly/quarterly/annual disclosure are completed accurately and on time.
  • Lead discussion for monthly Global Attestation Committee and provide senior management with valuable insights by leveraging consolidated Capital Markets results.
  • Oversee Capital Markets global internal control framework, coordinating key control inventory updates for SOX testing and reporting on internal audit metrics, including SOX deficiencies and self identified issues.
  • Support audit requests and coordinate with other Finance partners, taking ownership of incoming inquiries and proactively responding to ad-hoc requests for financial information and analysis from senior management.

What do you need to succeed?
Must-have

  • Professional designation (CPA required)
  • 4+ years of relevant professional experience, preferably in the Financial Services Industry
  • Strong team and people management skills and ability to collaborate with a wide group of peers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent analytical thinking and acute attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated, collaborative, and self-starter attitude.
  • Ability to manage numerous priorities amidst tight deadlines.
  • Strong proficiency with computer applications, such as Excel (vlookups, data validation, macros), PowerPoint and workflow design tools (Visio).

Nice-to-have

  • Strong knowledge of RBC financial systems and associated procedures
  • Experience with Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server and SQL
