About the role:
This is a unique opportunity for a talented and hands-on Acoustic Engineer to contribute to a project with real-world impact, alongside a highly collaborative engineering team focused on tackling complex, meaningful challenges, developing one of the world’s first sound-based fire suppression systems, using advanced prototyping labs and testing facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop low-frequency acoustic systems (30–60 Hz) for fire suppression applications
- Build and optimize directional speaker arrays and subwoofer setups
- Integrate acoustic hardware with drone platforms, working closely with cross-functional teams
- Conduct simulations and field tests to analyze sound propagation in diverse environments
- Develop strategies for vibration isolation to reduce interference from drone operations
- Lead prototype builds and participate in live fire-testing trials
- Ensure all designs meet safety, performance, and regulatory acoustic standards
Experience:
- Familiarity with drone integration or payload systems
- Experience with directional/parametric speaker technologies
- Knowledge of fire suppression or fire behavior science
- Background in defense, rescue, aerospace, or environmental technologies
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Acoustics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in acoustic system design and implementation
- Proficiency in modeling/simulation tools such as COMSOL, ANSYS, or MATLAB
- Experience with low-frequency sound systems and real-world testing
- Strong prototyping skills and the ability to iterate rapidly
- CAD100,000 – CAD115,000 per annum
This is a 100% on-site position based in Toronto.
