Reporting to the Chair, Inuit Languages and Culture Programs, the Nunatta Interpreter/Translator and Curriculum Resource Developer provides professional translation services to the Nunavut Arctic College (NAC), Nunatta Campus as well as supporting the Inuit Languages and Culture programs with required resources for curriculum development, program delivery, and evaluation. The incumbent will provide Inuit traditional resources required for programming and curriculum development for all Inuit Languages and Culture programs.
Other Key Responsibilities Of The Position Include
- Providing quality, highly proficient translation services from English to Inuktitut and Inuktitut to English;
- Ensuring the Inuit language and culture, including Inuit Societal Values are imbedded in curriculum development;
- Conducting terminological research and consulting with other organizations or experts;
- Providing resources for curriculum development and academic programming; and
- Supporting departmental efforts to protect, revitalize and promote the Inuit language through its programs and other activities.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position are typically acquired through a post-secondary Interpreter training certificate, along with a diploma in a related field such as Inuit Studies, Education, or Curriculum Development, and a minimum of two years of experience as an Interpreter. In addition, at least two years of curriculum development and/or teaching experience are required. Proficiency in both English and Inuktitut, with the ability to speak, read, and write in both languages, is essential.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
