Powertrain Controls Engineer – Senior

Job Summary:

Our client in Windsor, ON is seeking a Senior Powertrain Controls Engineer for a contract position.

What You Will Do:

The Senior Powertrain Controls Engineer will be responsible for developing new features and improving existing algorithms. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, utilizing various tools (vehicle, HIL, Dyno, Virtual, rapid prototyping) throughout the V-model development process to ensure quality and robustness of production algorithms.

  • Interface with systems and calibration teams to understand requirements.
  • Develop implementation strategies.
  • Assess and document impacts against regulatory requirements.
  • Markup models to meet design requirements.
  • Validate designs during production.
  • Develop plans, track progress, and present technical reports to management.
  • Participate in control strategy decisions to meet functional objectives.
  • Develop control strategies related to engine speed, gear, powertrain state, torque optimization, drivability, brake regeneration, and hybrid shift strategies.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in modeling mechanical transmission systems and familiarity with lever analogy principles for dynamic torque and speed relations, especially in hybrid torque controls.

Basics:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5-8 years of engineering experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 3-5 years with a Master’s degree.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Knowledge of Powertrain systems, calibration, and development tools.
  • Embedded software and electronic module experience are desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally as a self-starter.
  • Experience with model-based development tools and data analysis tools like ETAS-INCA.
  • Experience in modeling, simulation, testing, calibration, and validation.
  • This is an onsite position.
