Your Opportunity:
As a Clinical Coding Specialist (CCS), you will review clinical documentation from patient health records and assign diagnoses and intervention codes using the ICD-10-CA/CCI classification systems in accordance with provincial, jurisdictional directives, and CIHI rules and guidelines. You will ensure the accuracy, validity, integrity, and reliability of coded data, maintaining high quality standards. Additionally, you will participate in data quality initiatives and workflow improvements.
Applicants must write and pass a provincial coding proficiency test with a minimum score of 70% to proceed to the interview. Location is negotiable within Alberta, with Northern Allowance applicable in certain regions.
Key responsibilities include reviewing clinical documentation, applying diagnoses and interventions, remediating edits and warnings, identifying issues related to patient encounters and coding, escalating guidance as needed, and reconciling reports. Confidentiality of all Alberta Health Services (AHS) information must be maintained in accordance with relevant legislations and policies.
In addition to competitive pay, AHS offers a Fort McMurray Allowance up to $12,480 annually, payable hourly for all hours worked at the basic rate of pay.
As a Health Information Management Professional I, your duties will include coding, data abstraction, release of information, and data quality assurance, following AHS procedures and the Health Information Act. You will handle data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting for patient records.

**Required Qualifications:**
Completion of a diploma from an accredited Health Information Management Professional (HIMP) program; active or eligible registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).
**Additional Qualifications:**
Knowledge of Canadian Coding Standards, Discharge Abstract Database (DAD), and NACRS manuals; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills; ability to work independently and under pressure.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
Minimum one year of ICD-10-CA/CCI coding experience, or completion of a recognized Coding Refresher or Specialist Program; experience with Connect Care (EPIC) and 3M HDM; Certified Coding & Classification Specialist (CCCS) certification; completion of recognized coding programs by CCHIM.
