Employment Opportunity – Deputy Coroner (PRN)
The Kendall County Coroner’s Office is seeking to fill a vacancy for the position of part-time Deputy Coroner. This position is considered PRN status and does not have a regularly assigned shift. This position is subject to on-call availabilityand will primarily be assigned to weekend call.
General Description of Duties:
- Conducts death investigations, both by telephone, and in person, to determine cause and manner of death.
- Directs the recovery, transportation, and processing of bodies and related evidence.
- Documents circumstances surrounding reported deaths utilizing notes, photographs, measurements, written narratives, or other means as appropriate.
- Performs death notifications to next-of-kin in accordance with office policy.
- Coordinates community programs involving the Coroner’s Office

Minimum Qualifications:
- Have reached their 21st birthday by date of hire.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- An associates degree or completion of 60-semester units from an accredited college or university in medical, law enforcement, legal or related field; OR
- An equivalent amount of work-related experience on a year-per-year basis.
- Possess, or able to obtain, an Illinois Firearms Owner’s Identification (FOID) card.
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License and a good driving record.
- Ability to pass a background investigation with NO prior convictions of domestic violence, any felony, or crime of moral turpitude.
- Applicants must live within the approved Residency Boundaries (link below) by start date.
- This position is considered PRN (as needed) and may involve short-notice call outs and/or on-call availability.This position will generally be expected to provide call-coverage on weekend days/nights.
- Pay is $30.00/Hour
- This position is not eligible for county benefits.
