Job Description:
Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the Application & Technical Support Specialist 4 will provide support to City of Toronto, City Clerks Office, Toronto Elections.
Major Responsibilities:
- Installs, integrates, and maintains software, voting equipment, computer terminals, peripheral devices, and static control devices.
- Removes and transfers equipment as required. Installs voting equipment, computers and drives, configures switches, and makes software adjustments, sets up DOS files, performs superficial cabling, etc.
- Conducts systems tests to ensure proper operation of voting technology and data communications equipment, using tools, equipment, digital volt meter, and diagnostic software.
- Contacts external service companies to arrange for repair of equipment, as necessary. Follows up with user to ensure resolution.
- Demonstrates and describes the operation of voting equipment, computer terminals, peripherals, and network devices to departmental users.
- Maintains manual and computerized inventory (if required) and pricing records of equipment and software. Produces technical and administrative documentation including service log and status reports.
- Researches voting equipment, computer hardware and peripheral devices to meet user needs and recommends appropriate equipment and configurations, as required.
- Maintains documentation and reference material related to equipment maintenance.
- Travels to off-site locations.
Key Qualifications:
Yourapplicationmust describeyourqualifications as theyrelateto:
- Experience working with election management systems, voting equipment, voting technologies and various technical hardware (i.e., Laptops, Tablets, Desktop PC, Scanners, Wireless Networks).
- Post-secondary education in computer science, information technology or related discipline, or the equivalent approved combination of education and/or experience
- Experience working in a customer service environment providing technical support and troubleshooting, dealing directly with staff and the public in person and by phone.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite/365 products in the use of various computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, MS Access, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Experience in preparing technical documentation, developing procedural training materials and conducting training
- Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver’s License.
You must also have:
- Knowledge of election management software or related systems. (e.g. Electionware)
- Excellent organizational, analytical and time management skills with the ability to multi-task, set priorities, manage a diverse workload and meet tight deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively with all levels of staff
- Ability to communicate effectively at various levels within organizations, including oral/written and presentation skills
- Ability to support, train and test new features of hardware and software applications
- Problem solving and decision making skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment
- Ability to perform inventory control including quality assurance
- Sound judgement and the ability to handle information of a confidential/sensitive nature
- Ability to lift/move equipment/boxes repetitively up to 50 lbs (23 kg)
- Knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout the City of Toronto and work in inclement weather conditions
- Willingness and ability to work long hours in peak periods, including evenings and weekends
