Progressive Legal Solutions (PLS) is growing! We are opening the second office in Richmond Hill, which will cover courthouses in Newmarket and Toronto. For that reason, we are in search of good people from Simcoe County and the GTA to join us!

PLS is a law firm dedicated exclusively to family law, Small Claims Court matters (and ancillary areas of law such as Wills).

Progressive Legal Solutions Professional Corporation is looking for highly motivated, fearless team members. Although 2+ years of experience will be an asset, it is not required if you possess other skills or character traits complementing lack of experience. We will teach the right person to the highest standards of practice, even if you do not have experience.

In this position, you will be responsible for providing legal representation to our clients in a variety of settings. We are looking for someone who is comfortable with a fast-paced environment, can multi-task, and is able to work independently or as part of a team. The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.

In other words, we are looking for someone who is able to withstand stressful situations, not afraid of challenges and has a “happy warrior” soul.

Renumeration will consist of a competitive base salary plus a year-end bonus based on the associate’s performance/billings with the exact structure to be disclosed during the interview.

Responsibilities

  • Represent clients in court, in mediation, or during negotiations in the context of family law.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research using tools such as Lexis-Nexis or Westlaw to gather relevant information and precedents.
  • Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients, ensuring their best interests are prioritized.
  • Draft legal documents including separation agreements, prenuptial agreements, cohabitation agreements.
  • Draft pleadings, including but not limited to: Applications, Answers, briefs, motions, any other documents pursuant to the Family Law Rules .
  • Assist in preparation for trial (i.e. preparing witnesses and documents) as well as attendance at trials with the principal lawyer.
  • Represent clients at trials.
  • Provide legal advice to clients regarding their rights and obligations under the applicable legislation in the context of family law.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and legal trends that may impact client cases.
  • Collaborate with other legal professionals and support staff to ensure efficient case management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal lawyer.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. Completion of a Canadian law school is an asset.
  • Licensed by the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Post-call experience of at least 2 years is an asset.
  • Proven experience and knowledge of applicable rules, directions and limitations of litigation in Central East and Toronto regions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly.
  • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team environment.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining client confidentiality.

Pay: $80,000.00-$140,000.00 per year
