We are hiring an Associate Support Engineer to support the technical needs of customers leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. This role offers an opportunity for a hands-on engineer with a passion for Linux and open source technologies to work with industry experts at Canonical.

You will solve technical problems ranging from cloud environments, desktop and server issues, Linux kernel crashes, to OS configuration issues and root cause analysis, providing expert-level support across cloud, desktop, and IoT. You will own and manage your cases, escalating when necessary. This is a remote, globally accessible role.

This is a globally remote role.

The role entails:

  • Providing technical support from your home office
  • Owning and resolving support cases via phone, email, and web
  • Communicating effectively with internal customers
  • Ensuring support cases meet SLA standards with high customer satisfaction
  • Contributing to and maintaining knowledge base articles
  • Drafting technical notices for communication
  • Prioritizing tasks effectively
  • Continuously learning about our products and services
  • Understanding Ubuntu development to set realistic customer expectations
  • Maintaining communication with team members
  • Suggesting improvements for service quality
  • Participating in weekend rotation shifts

What we are looking for in you:

  • Strong academic record from high school and university
  • Degree in a technical field or relevant experience; preferred majors include Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering
  • Confidence in communication and feedback exchange
  • Proven ability to exceed expectations
  • Experience with Linux troubleshooting
  • Knowledge or experience in at least two of the following: Linux server administration, programming fundamentals, networking, virtualization/cloud computing
  • Quick learner, adaptable, and able to handle customer-facing pressure
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • Respect for diversity and cultural sensitivity
  • Result-driven with a strong commitment to responsibilities
  • Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks

Background checks will be conducted for this role.

Nice-to-have skills:

  • Experience with virtualized environments (KVM, VirtualBox, VMWare)
  • Experience with open-source desktop technologies
  • Active contribution to open-source projects or forums
