About the Role
The Associate or Senior Associate will play a critical role in supporting the investment process for Bonnefield’s Agribusiness Fund. This person will work closely with experienced investment professionals to source, evaluate, and execute investment opportunities, while also contributing to portfolio management.
Responsibilities
Investment Analysis and Due Diligence :
- Conduct detailed research and analysis of Canadian agribusiness sectors, market trends, and private companies.
- Perform financial statement analysis and build sophisticated financial models to evaluate potential investments.
- Assess investment merits, risks, and return scenarios, focusing on non-controlling junior capital investment structures.
- Prepare comprehensive investment memoranda and presentations summarizing findings for senior team members and investment committees.
- Evaluate management teams, industry structures, and competitive dynamics to inform investment decisions.
Deal Sourcing and Execution :
- Support the identification of new investment opportunities through industry research, competitor assessments, and relationship-building with industry stakeholders, including via industry conferences.
- Assist in commercial, operational, and financial due diligence, including site visits and management interviews.
- Collaborate with senior team members to structure and execute investments.
- Monitor the financial and operational performance of portfolio companies, preparing quarterly and annual reviews.
- Support portfolio companies in strategic initiatives, such as operational improvements, capital structure optimization, or add-on acquisitions.
Knowledge Management and Collaboration :
- Contribute to improving internal processes, including CRM systems and knowledge management tools.
- Build and maintain relationships with industry players, advisors, and financial institutions to support deal flow and market intelligence.
- Undertake ad-hoc projects to support the Fund’s strategic objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field with strong academic performance.
- 2-6years of relevant experience in investment banking, corporate advisory, private equity, management consulting, or agribusiness-related financial roles.
- Experience or interest in food or agribusiness sectors considered a strong asset.
- Strong financial modeling, valuation, and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly and concisely.
- Detail-oriented, intellectually curious, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
- Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach when working with colleagues and portfolio company management.
- Additional qualifications such as CFA, CPA, or enrollment in relevant programs are an asset.
