We are seeking top-tier talent to join our Infrastructure division and develop innovative projects in transit and transportation sectors, including roads, highways/freeways, bridges, interchanges, LRTs, BRTs, and airports. About The Role:
The Chief Estimator reports directly to the Ontario Pre-Construction Director and will possess in-depth knowledge of conceptual estimating, budgeting, tendering, proposal submission, and construction methodology. The Chief Estimator will oversee large projects and transit estimating teams, while being mentored by the Director to further develop leadership skills and pursuit strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead bidding and pre-construction estimating activities, ensuring financial targets are met in partnership with the Director.
- Review project scope of work to ensure estimates are complete and all specifications, subcontractor scopes, and general conditions are accurately quantified and costed.
- Identify and develop constructability requirements for initial and high-level budgets.
- Propose and approve project risk assessments, cost mitigation strategies, and identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Develop and approve bid strategies, constructability requirements, and innovations to enhance bidding success.
- Prepare and coordinate detailed estimates as needed.
- Track and analyze estimating pursuits to improve processes.
- Manage, train, and mentor estimators, overseeing profit/loss performance of projects.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to estimating staff in planning, organizing, and supervising their work.
- Review all estimates thoroughly, including those prepared by others.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams, reflecting Graham’s core values and brand image.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field; additional certifications such as Gold Seal, LEED, MRICS, or CIQS are assets.
- At least 20 years of combined field and estimating experience, including a minimum of 5 years as an Estimating Manager with a medium-to-large general contractor.
- Leadership experience related to ICI projects.
- Successful track record in leading projects exceeding $100 million and managing estimating teams.
- Ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
- Proficiency in design-build, IPD, and construction management approaches is an asset.
