Alberta’s Correctional Services Division remains an integral partner in the provincial justice system. Mandated by the courts to enforce remand and custodial orders, staffing correctional facilities appropriately ensures the delivery of services, which aligns with multiple government priorities, and provides for the custody, care and control of inmates in Alberta’s correctional facilities. In this position you will work on a rotational shift and be responsible for the daily operation of the Centre. Reporting directly to the Centre Director, you will be accountable for all administration, managerial and operational functions of your assigned shift. You will ensure that all tasks are carried out in accordance with policies and directives.
Using your strong communication and interpersonal skills, you will participate in staff recruitment, training, mentoring, evaluation, supervision and performance management. You will have a direct effect on the operational budget through fiscally responsible hiring of staff in order to backfill absences when required. Expenditure Officer training and responsibilities will be required along with processing approvals on 1GX.
In addition, you will oversee all emergencies that occur in the facility including making sure operations officers are accessing and utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment as required by Occupational Health and Safety standards. Your excellent administration skills will be applied and reflected in report writing and in the development of Centre Standard Operating Procedures.
Other responsibilities may include providing input on a variety of standing and special committees and involvement in special projects, as required. In the absence of the Director in off hours and/or weekends, you may be requested to act on his behalf. Your strong problem-solving skills coupled with your well-developed decision-making abilities will ensure your success in this role.

Qualifications
University graduation in a related field plus a minimum of four years related experience in the field of Law Enforcement.
Equivalency:
Directly related experience or education will be considered on the basis of:
• 1 year of experience for 1 year of education; or
• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience
Related education may include but is not limited to Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Corrections Foundations, etc.
Candidates must possess related law enforcement experience with demonstrated skills in supervision, operational planning, and personnel management.
A valid Alberta Driver’s license is required for this position.

This posting is intended to fill one permanent and one temporary full-time positions at the Peace River Correctional Centre.
Peace River Correctional Centre is a 24/7 operation facility, successful candidates will be required to work a 6/3 shift rotation including days, afternoons and nights at 7.25 hours per shift.
