Director at Large – Volunteer Opportunity
Join us to apply for the Director at Large – Volunteer Opportunity role at Vivo for Healthier Generations .
Vivo, a charitable organization in the recreation sector dedicated to promoting healthier generations in Calgary, is seeking a Director at Large to join our governance board.
For over two decades, Vivo has fostered a community mindset that transcends physical spaces, creating an inclusive environment that empowers individuals to advocate for health and wellness. As a Director at Large, you will help shape Vivo’s strategic goals and turn these into initiatives that benefit North Central Calgary communities.
Our Board is committed to governance excellence and is pursuing accreditation through Imagine Canada’s Standards Program. Vivo’s objectives guide our current and future directions as a registered charity.
- Advance public health by enhancing social, physical, and emotional well-being through athletic and recreational programs.
- Engage in research to improve public participation and mental health by examining the link between physical fitness and health.
- Promote education on research outcomes related to our work.
- Support charities by sharing resources to fulfill charitable purposes, aligned with Charities Directorate guidelines.
- Provide public amenities through facilities that support public health.
Role
The ideal candidate is a strategic leader with experience in relationship management and team leadership, preferably in:
- Financial Leadership (CFA/Accounting)
- Government Relations
- Legal and Governance
- Philanthropy/Fund Development
- Business Development
Qualifications
- Ability to cultivate relationships and create opportunities for Vivo.
- Strong business acumen and entrepreneurial mindset.
- Diplomacy and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience leading productive meetings.
- Commitment to Vivo’s mission, values, strategy, and governance principles.
Responsibilities
Directors serve a minimum three-year term, dedicating approximately 10 hours per month for meetings and committee work, with increased time during onboarding and events like the AGM. Each director is expected to sit on at least one committee.
