CPA Ontario is currently seeking a Director, Data Governance to lead the ongoing development and operationalization of data governance across the organization. In this pivotal role, you will work closely with senior leadership, data stewards, and IT teams to establish and enforce policies, procedures, standards, and practices, and lead Data Governance strategic initiatives to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, security and availability of data. You will also spearhead the continued development and use of data governance tools and technologies to support data governance strategies and operations, all while maintaining a focus on the secure, efficient, and effective use of data.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Leading the ongoing development and execution of the Data Governance Program framework and strategy, focusing on data ownership, stewardship, data cataloguing, data classification, and data quality management. Partnering and Collaborating with IT Security to develop and implement data security strategies including access control, sharing policies, and sensitivity classification.

Partnering with key business and IT stakeholders to support the ongoing implementation of data governance policies, standards, and practices. Providing leadership to business and IT projects to ensure adherence to data governance standards, and collaborating with Data Stewards, Data Domain Owners, and IT Security on Data Governance initiatives.

Developing and implementing policies to support the Data Governance strategy, leading the Data Governance Working Group to address and resolve issues and challenges. Creating and maintaining a comprehensive data catalog, including a data dictionary, business glossary, and data sensitivity classifications. Defining and executing data quality metrics, remediation plans, and monitor performance using KPIs.

Advocating for and overseeing the use of data governance tools across the organization. Leading the use of tools such as Microsoft Purview for cataloging and Microsoft PowerBI for data quality measurement, ensuring these tools are leveraged effectively across all stakeholders, and collaborating with IT teams to keep systems current.

Who You Are:

A post-secondary graduate in Business, Information Systems, Information Technology, or an equivalent discipline. An advanced degree or certification in Data Governance or related fields is a plus.

A subject matter expert with 5+ years of experience in Data Governance leadership roles, and a proven track record in designing, implementing, and operationalizing data governance frameworks across various data management areas, including data cataloguing, classification, quality management, and data security.

Demonstrated technical expert in data governance tools and technologies, with hands-on experience using tools like Microsoft Purview for metadata management and Power BI for data quality measurement.

An exceptional communicator, skilled in leading cross-functional teams, presenting complex ideas, and building strong relationships with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Highly organized, exceling at managing multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring high attention to detail and accuracy.

A strategic thinker, capable of driving large-scale governance initiatives from inception to completion with a high degree of initiative and independence.
