This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Iqaluit only.

Reporting to the Manager of Wellness, the Dispute Resolution Consultant (DRC) ensures that the Government of Nunavut’s workplaces are healthy, safe, and respectful, complying with relevant legislative requirements. The incumbent promotes respectful work environments across the GN, providing informal conflict/dispute resolution and management counselling; conducting and advising on formal and informal investigations, mediation, and dispute resolution services; and undertaking harassment and conflict prevention initiatives, including early intervention and workplace restoration following investigations. The DRC incorporates Inuit Societal Values (ISV), especially Inuuqatigiitsiarniq—respecting others, relationships, and caring for people—into conflict resolution processes.

The incumbent acts as a link between the client department and the employee, identifying interests, recommending early resolution options, offering coaching, remedial and follow-up services, and working with Employee Relations Consultants to select effective conflict resolution approaches. They gather and provide support/briefing documentation after informal resolution avenues are exhausted. The DRC offers expert advice on handling disputes, interpretation of law, collective agreements, and human rights legislation, which impact workforce costs and productivity.

Qualifications include a recognized post-secondary degree in Mediation, Conflict Resolution, Labour Studies, Organizational Conflict and Management, Industrial Relations, or related fields, plus at least 3 years’ experience in dispute resolution or conflict management. Workplace restoration and investigation training are required. A Mediation certificate and membership with the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario and Canada are assets.

Knowledge of Nunavut’s languages (Inuktut, English, French), Inuit culture, land, and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, along with experience in a northern cross-cultural environment, are assets. Applicants may submit resumes in any official language, with fluency in multiple languages considered an asset. Equivalent education and experience will be considered.

An eligibility list may be created for future vacancies.

Additional notes:

  • Priority will be given to Nunavut Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement, per the Priority Hiring Policy.
  • Employees serving probation must obtain written authorization from their deputy head to apply.
  • A criminal record may not disqualify candidates; assessments will consider the position’s scope.
  • Foreign credentials must be assessed through a recognized Canadian institution.
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
