Organizational Description: The Immigrant Centre provides newcomers with free programs and services including settlement, employment, language, nutrition training, and verification of translations.

Description of Duties:
- Meet online or in person with their Language Partner for informal conversation classes
- Assist with basic grammar, vocabulary building, and pronunciation
- Provide encouragement and support
- Share general information about Winnipeg, e.g. community events, activities, schools, transportation
- Provide information about Canadian life, culture and customs
Skills Required:
- Resided in Canada (preferably in Winnipeg) for at least three years
- Knowledgeable about Winnipeg
- Fluent in English with minimum CLB of 8 or equivalent
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse ethno-cultural backgrounds
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong time management and organization skills
- Patience
- For online classes – experience using Zoom
Skills Gained/Related Careers:
Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+
Time Commitment: Daytime , Evening , Weekend
- 1.5 hours per week
- Minimum three-month commitment required
- One meeting per week minimum
- Shifts available on weekdays, evenings and Saturdays
- Online classes take place via Zoom
- In-person classes take place at the Immigrant Centre or off-site at a public location: e.g. library or coffee shop. Volunteers who want to meet with their partner off-site must provide a Police Record Certificate.
