Job Description

Geotechnical / Geo-environmental Engineer

Location: Southampton

Ready to work on projects that shape communities, protect the environment, and develop your technical edge? We’re offering a rare opportunity to join a forward-thinking engineering consultancy in a hands-on, site-engaged role that blends geotechnical precision with environmental responsibility. Working along Southampton’s vibrant coastline, you’ll be delivering real-world impact across a rich portfolio of projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Geo Engineer, your scope will be excitingly broad. You’ll be trusted to:

  • Lead on-site investigations, including trial pitting, soak-away testing, borehole supervision, and capping verification
  • Supervise construction phases, from inspecting foundations to managing remediation of contaminated sites and mine workings
  • Compile and author detailed Phase 1 and 2 geotechnical and geo-environmental reports
  • Prepare coal mining risk assessments, earthworks strategies, and verification documentation
  • Advise on geotechnical parameters for foundations, slope stability, and other structural elements
  • Conduct detailed quantitative risk assessments and support safe, sustainable project design
  • Collaborate closely with clients, regulators, contractors, and internal engineering teams across multiple disciplines

This is not just a desk-bound role. It’s boots-on-the-ground engineering — combining fieldwork, data analysis, and meaningful consultancy.

What We’re Looking For

You’re a driven professional, either newly qualified or with some experience, ready to grow into the next phase of your career. Essentials include:

  • A Degree or Masters in Geology, Geography, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong technical skills in site investigations and report writing
  • Working towards professional accreditation (Geological Society, ICE, or equivalent)
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car (mileage allowance provided)
  • Collaborative mindset and strong communication skills

Whether you’re more inclined toward geotechnical design, contaminated land remediation, or coal mining risk assessments, there’s a niche here for you to develop.

Why Join Us

We believe people grow best through exposure, mentorship, and meaningful responsibility. Here’s what we offer:

  • Professional Development: In-house training & support toward chartership
  • Flexible Working: Tailored start/finish times around your schedule
  • Generous Holidays: Up to 26 days plus the option of 3 extra days
  • Pension & Insurance: 4% pension, 2x life insurance, enhanced sick pay
  • Health Support: Discounted health cash plan for everyday medical needs
  • Lifestyle Benefits: Cycle-to-work scheme, social events, community involvement

This is more than a job — it’s an environment where you’ll be encouraged to thrive technically and socially.

We foster a close-knit team culture, valuing curiosity, initiative, and a bit of good humour.
