- Background
The Syria Media Literacy Lab aims to strengthen the professional skills of participating media practitioners by providing training in journalism and fostering an improved quality of reporting in Syria. To achieve this, the project combines capacity-building workshops with preparatory research on the local media landscape and the circulation of disinformation in Syria. The findings will contribute to achieving the overall project objectives and indicators.
- Purpose of the Position
The Head of Research / Conceptual Lead ensures the coherence and quality of the project concept and oversees its supervision. This role carries overall responsibility for the development, implementation, and dissemination of the project’s preparatory research.

Responsibilities and Tasks3.1 Project Supervision

Provide conceptual guidance and supervision to ensure that project objectives and intended impacts are achieved.
- Conduct regular monitoring meetings.
- Participate in the recruitment process by interviewing applicants and selecting participants in collaboration with the Project Manager (PM) and the implementing organization.
- Develop the curriculum and select workshop trainers.
- Evaluate project results and provide recommendations.
3.2 Research
- Lead the project’s research component, including data collection, analysis, and production of the research report and policy brief.
- Disseminate and present research findings at academic conferences.
3.3 Teaching
- Conduct virtual and in-person workshops on relevant topics as outlined in the curriculum.

Develop and provide corresponding teaching materials.

Collaboration and Reporting Lines
The Head of Research / Conceptual Lead reports directly to the implementing organization and works in close collaboration with the Project Manager.

Qualifications
-
Advanced university degree in a relevant research field; PhD is an advantage.
- Strong record of academic publications.
- Academic and practical experience in teaching, media, disinformation, and extremism is desirable.
- Practical experience in journalism.
- Proficiency in using digital tools and collaborative platforms.

Excellent command of German, English, and Arabic; knowledge of French is an asset.

50 days over a 6-month project duration. - Location:
Remote, with one field mission to Syria and Jordan. - Contract duration:
6 months (project period). - Start date:
As soon as possible in early September
