Position Summary:

Covenant Care/Covenant Living welcomes all who share a calling to serve those most in need. Covenant Care/Covenant Living is currently recruiting for a Human Resources Business Partner based in Edmonton requiring regular travel to our Edmonton sites, and interprovincial travel (on an as needed basis).

Reporting to the HR Manager, the Human Resources Business Partner is responsible for advising, coaching, and supporting management in human resources in support of operations, employee and labour relations, full cycle recruitment, interpretation of various employment/legal documentation, collective agreements, assisting with creation and delivery of training/development material, performance and attendance management, and return to work matters, including Duty to Accommodate.

The incumbent may provide research and support for special projects undertaken by Human Resources, and participate in reviewing and setting policy.

Primary Role and Responsibility:

HR Support

  • Provide assistance within the HR portfolio as directed by the HR Manager(s)
  • Review, revise and develop HR policies in collaboration with the HR team

Recruitment

  • Support full cycle recruitment/hiring process encompassing posting positions, screening interviews, assisting with interviews, performing background checks and issuing employment contracts
  • Responsible for issuing employment contracts for all sites at various levels

Employment/Labour Relations (ER/LR)

  • The HR Manager(s) may engage the HRBP in supporting the grievance process at various levels, create correspondence, supporting various requirements as directed
  • Interpret and provide advice on the administration of collective agreements, policies and procedures and employment related legislation
  • Investigate HR ‘best practices’ for dealing with HR issues
  • Support the HR Manager(s) with harassment and ER investigations, write investigation reports, and support follow up action.

OH&S and Abilities Management

  • Work with employees, union reps (if applicable), OH&S specialists and disability insurance providers to assist with Return to Work and Duty to accommodate processes
  • Work with Manager(s) on modified work options or alternative positions for accommodations
  • Support Ability Management under the guidance of the OHS Manager
  • Participate in OHS committees as required by the OHS Manager

Projects and other related duties

  • Develop/deliver training materials/presentations for management and staff on HR related items
  • Provide input on HR metrics
  • Responsible for maintaining and creating the monthly Newsletter
  • Recommend/develop improvements to HR process, best practices, etc.
  • Responsible to maintain HR files for the site(s) assigned to
  • Update and maintain seniority lists for all sites across the organisation
  • Responsible for coordinating HR orientation training for all new employees, works with educators to plan and schedule time via Teams
  • Other duties as required/assigned

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary education (HR certificate, diploma or degree) in Human Resources and/or Labour Relations is required, as the incumbent must be able to draw upon a body of theoretical knowledge to resolve issues
  • Experience in employee/labour relations
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer skills will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of DayForce HRIS software would be an asset
  • Ability to establish and foster healthy work relationships with internal and external stakeholders (employees, managers, unions)
  • Ability to communicate in respectful, sensitive manner with individuals from diverse background
  • Discretion, diplomacy and tact
  • Experience in full cycle recruitment
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement, and be extremely flexible in managing variable and unpredictable situations with strong leadership, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Required proof of completion against all required communicable diseases under Covenant Care’s OHS policy
  • Position requires valid driver’s license, access to vehicle and ability to rent a vehicle for travel inter-provincially. (Reimbursement provided based on our travel policy).
