Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Regional Director and reporting to the Health Service Administrator, this position is responsible for the overall administrative and technical management of the Laboratory Department and its operations, including policies, procedures, budgets, reports, personnel, and records. The role involves planning, organizing, and directing the work of the Laboratory staff across all areas, ensuring quality assurance is maintained.

Shift Rotation/Hours of Work: 07:00 to 17:30, rotating schedule, Monday to Thursday one week and Tuesday to Friday the next. On-call is mandatory and an integral part of this position.

Nats’oojeh Hospital and Health Centre

This new state-of-the-art facility is three times the size of the previous hospital, featuring 27 beds (18 long-term care and 9 acute-care), an expanded emergency department, larger laboratory and diagnostic imaging spaces, and a design that reflects local Indigenous culture, creating a welcoming environment.

The hospital provides culturally safe care for residents of Fort St. James, surrounding areas, and Indigenous communities. Services include:

Fort St. James is located on the southeast shore of Stuart Lake. The town has a population of approximately 4,500 and is a national historic site. The main industries are forestry, mining, and tourism. Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized Medical Laboratory Technology program. Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science or Advanced Registered Technologist Certificate required.
  • Completion of an administrative training program such as a Canadian Hospital Association Departmental Management Certificate.
  • Current certification with the Canadian Society of Laboratory Technologists.
  • At least five years of recent related experience, including two at a supervisory level, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
