Litigation Associate – Construction (Downtown Toronto)
Job description
Our client is one of Canada’s highly distinguished litigation firms. They are currently looking to add a Litigation Associate with 5+ years of experience in construction law and construction-related insurance defence work.
Your new role
In this role, you will handle multiple files through the litigation process, both independently and as part of an experienced team. You will manage your own files and collaborate with senior counsel on more complex matters. Your responsibilities include negotiating and litigating various construction disputes, dealing with issues such as tender processes, procurement, payments, deficiencies, liens, trusts, and negligent work. Additionally, you will advise clients on negotiating and drafting construction-related contracts, including design-build, construction management, stipulated sum prime contracts, subcontracts, P3 contracts, and tender and RFP documents.
What you will need to succeed
To qualify, you must have a minimum of 5 years’ post-call experience with demonstrated knowledge and interest in litigation, especially construction-related matters. You should work well under pressure, manage priorities effectively, and meet deadlines. Strong teamwork skills, trustworthiness, accountability, proactivity, and a positive attitude are essential. You should also possess confidence and legal acumen to excel in this role. A thorough knowledge of the Construction Act and other relevant legislation is required. Demonstrated ability to develop and manage client relationships is also important.
