Post Description
The Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for the planning and coordination of the work related to the different industrial mechanical systems and their related activities, during all phases of the mechanical construction / repairs processes. He must provide the technical expertise to ensure the smooth running of the equipment. He is also responsible for performing the required diagnostics and repairing the different equipment that the company has, when necessary. He ensures that the preventive maintenances are done, according to the schedules put in place, in order to maintain optimal operations. The incumbent will work for our Toronto, Ontario (Canada) location.

  • Supervise, coordinate and schedule the activities of workers who repair and maintain industrial machinery and equipment, and other mechanical equipment;
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and coordinate work activities with other departments;
  • Requisite materials and supplies;
  • Resolve work problems and recommend work measures to improve productivity;
  • Train or arrange for training of workers on different type of equipment;
  • Ensure that standards for safe working conditions are observed;
  • Prepare different types of reports when necessary;
  • Participate actively to different meetings;
  • May also supervise, coordinate and schedule the activities of related apprentices, helpers and labourers;
  • Liaise with subcontractors to determine the scope of work, timelines and necessary tests (different depts such as: plumbing, alarm system, heating, painters, drywallers, health & safety equipment);
  • Read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures;
  • Install, align, dismantle and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, such as conveyors according to layout plans using hand and power tools;
  • Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as jacks and forklifts to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery;
  • Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions;
  • Install, troubleshoot and maintain power transmission systems;
  • Adjust machinery, repair or replace defective parts;
  • Operate machine tools such as lathes and grinders to fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance or set-up of machinery;
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on machinery;
  • Construct foundations for machinery or direct other workers to construct foundations;
  • Assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand and power tools and welding equipment;
  • Supervise the equipment to be rigged and make sure it is prepared according to the usual policies and procedures in place;
  • May participate in the review of submissions and/or tenders as required for the different projects the company may have;
  • Comply with established rules and procedures (health & safety, 5S, etc.);
  • Be actively involved in the continuous improvement process to improve the reliability of the systems through suggestions for improvements;
  • Carry out any other duties or responsibilities as may be requested by his immediate supervisor.

Profile Required

  • Relevant technical diploma or certificate;
  • 5 – 10 years of experience in mechanic trades (within which a min. of 2 years in an industrial environment or on a construction site);
  • Leadership;
  • Ability to lead and supervise employees;
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams and mechanical schematics drawings ;
  • Capacity to use different hand tools;
  • Capacity to work at heights, when required;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Judgment and resourcefulness;
  • Team player;
  • Can work overtime from time to time;
  • Rigorous and methodic ;
  • Must have access to a car;
  • Valid driving license;
  • Valid passport;
  • Capacity to travel and be out of the country (from time to time, for several weeks or a couple of months);
  • Bluebeam / Autocad softwares knowledge;
  • Computer literate and MS-Office knowledge;
  • Millwright certification (a strong asset);
  • Bilinguism (French language an asset).
