For Medical Radiation Technologist positions that are full-time and permanent, recruitment bonuses include: $3,000 on start date, $3,000 at 6 months of service, $5,000 at 1 year of service, and $7,000 at 2 years of service. For Job shares, salary, bonuses/allowances are pro-rated in accordance with hours worked.
Reporting to the Manager Diagnostic Imaging Services, the Technologist is instrumental in providing services to the Qikiqtani General Hospital and Territory of Nunavut. This position fulfills all general radiology and mammography requirements, in the absence of an onsite Radiologist, by using a variety of equipment. Holter Monitor, cardiac Event Recorder, and electrocardiogram services are also provided to the QGH and the Territory.
The Technologist provides general radiological and mammography responsibilities, performed with adherence to the Code of Ethics and the Standard of Practice of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) and the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR).
The technologist must have a sound understanding of Mammography, X-Ray techniques, anatomical positioning, and physiology to independently select and modify technical parameters to produce optimal imaging results. The technologist takes charge of patients and performs a variety of diagnostic or therapeutic procedures for clinical purposes.
The Technologist is available as a resource to nurses and basic radiographers in the Community Health Centres.
The required knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through:
- Successful completion of a 3-year accredited and recognized college program in medical radiological technology OR a degree in medical radiation technology;
- CAMRT Mammography Level 1 and 2 or equivalent and ongoing education credits to maintain accreditation;
- Specialized on-site training at an accredited Breast Imaging Centre;
- Annual certification in CPR and WHMIS;
- Current registration with the CAMRT (Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists);
- Two years of post-graduate experience practicing mammography;
- Priority will be given to Nunavut Inuit who self-identify as enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement, in accordance with the Priority Hiring Policy.

- Government employees serving a probationary period must obtain written authorization from their department’s deputy head to be considered for this position.
