The Institute of Physics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences II is offering a full-time

Post-doctoral research associate (m-f-d)

The position is available immediately for a fixed term of 3 years (with an option to extend the contract by a

further 3 years).

The medical physics group is working in the field of biomedical photoacoustic imaging and sensor

technology. We are developing novel ultrasound sensors and scanners for maximum contrast, image depth

and rate, and methods for quantitative functional and molecular imaging.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Development of methods / technologies for biomedical photoacoustic imaging from basic research to in

vivo applications

  • Teaching in physics and medical physics courses of the institute (4 SWS, in German)

  • Publication of scientific results, applying for independent research funding

This position offers the opportunity of achieving scientific independence via a habilitation or a fellowship (e.g.,

Emmy-Noether-Programme, ERC Starting Grant). Applications should include a short research proposal (maxi-

mum 1 A4 page).

Requirements:

  • Completed university degree and a completed doctorate in physics, medical physics, biophysics, or a rele-

vant natural or engineering science, e.g. biomedical engineering

  • Research experience in experimental physics, ideally in fields compatible with the activities of the group

  • Proficiency in programming (e.g., Python, Matlab, LabView)

  • Knowledge and experience in some of the following fields: Optics, opto-electronics, ultrasound/acoustics,

device control, signal processing, mathematical simulation

  • Creativity, scientific curiosity and the intention to pursue an academic career

  • Experience in independent planning, realisation and communication of scientific studies

  • Ability to work in a team, self-organisation, good communication skills

  • Experience in teaching and supervision desirable

  • Very good written and spoken English and German

Remuneration will be determined based on job duties and responsibilities and will be aligned with the fulfillment

of listed personal requirements, up to pay grade E13 TV-L under the TV-L (Tarifvertrag für den Öffentlichen Dienst

der Länder – ‘German Public Service Pay Agreement for the Federal States’).
