About The Role
Do you have passion working with a diverse, collaborative team to lead decarbonization and the advancement of Renewable Energy in Power Grids? Are you excited working on electric grid transmission planning, generation, large load interconnection such as data centers ?
DNV Energy Systems’ group has an exciting opportunity for a Power System Study Engineer in its Renewables & Power Grids service area. Our team provides creative, cost effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in the power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The Engineer must demonstrate vision and drive and be passionate about contributing to the growth of the Power Systems Advisory business in North America. The ideal candidate will contribute in delivering technical insights and providing customers with excellent customer service.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform electrical System Impact Studies such as Steady State, Dynamic and Transient Stability analyses for generation, large load interconnections in PSS/E
  • Perform Short Circuit studies in ASPEN
  • Perform Voltage ride through (VRT) tests, dynamic model quality tests, model benchmarking
  • Perform transmission planning & compliance assessments for bulk electric power system in PSS/E
  • Produce and/or review technical reports and presentations for external Customers
  • Timely completion of projects assigned while meeting project quality and project budget
  • Develop or modify automation scripts to enhance the efficiency, speed and accuracy of technical simulations
  • Stay up to date with relevant NERC, ISO/RTO planning procedures, policy changes and developments
  • Contribute to the team’s research and innovation activities in terms of development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to further the team’s performance in terms of efficiency and/or capability improvements
  • Cultivate customer relationships, technical advisory support for generations, and large load interconnections connecting to transmission system

This role is based at our DNV office in Toronto (ON) or Montreal (QB) presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site. Further details regarding role-specific requirements will be shared during the interview process.
The position may also be considered at other DNV offices within Canada.

Ce que vous ferez

  • RĂ©aliser des Ă©tudes d’impact du système Ă©lectrique telles que des analyses de stabilitĂ© en rĂ©gime permanent, dynamique et transitoire pour la production, des interconnexions de charges importantes dans PSS/E
  • RĂ©aliser des Ă©tudes de court-circuit dans ASPEN
  • Effectuer des tests VRT (Voltage Ride through), des tests de qualitĂ© de modèle dynamiques, des benchmarking de modèle
  • Effectuer la planification du transport et les Ă©valuations de la conformitĂ© pour le rĂ©seau de transport d’Ă©lectricitĂ© en PSS/E
  • Produire et/ou rĂ©viser des rapports techniques et des prĂ©sentations pour des clients externes
  • Achèvement en temps opportun des projets assignĂ©s tout en respectant la qualitĂ© et le budget du projet
  • DĂ©velopper ou modifier des scripts d’automatisation pour amĂ©liorer l’efficacitĂ©, la rapiditĂ© et la prĂ©cision des simulations techniques
  • Restez Ă  jour avec les procĂ©dures de planification NERC, ISO/RTO, les changements de politique et les dĂ©veloppements pertinents.
  • Contribuer aux activitĂ©s de recherche et d’innovation de l’Ă©quipe en termes de dĂ©veloppement de nouvelles techniques et/ou d’outils analytiques pour favoriser la performance de l’Ă©quipe en termes d’efficacitĂ© et/ou d’amĂ©lioration des capacitĂ©s

Ce poste est basĂ© Ă  notre bureau de DNV Ă  Toronto (ON) ou Ă  MontrĂ©al (QB), prĂ©sentant un horaire hybride dynamique oĂą les employĂ©s passeront gĂ©nĂ©ralement trois (3) jours par semaine Ă  travailler Ă  partir d’un bureau de DNV ou d’un emplacement/site client. About You
What is Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with emphasis on electric power systems
  • Minimum 2 + years of direct working experience to include transmission planning, expansion, generation and/or large load interconnection related analyses, NERC reliability standards such as TPL/MOD/CIP
  • Minimum 2 + years of hands-on experience with power-system tools such as PSS/E
  • In-depth understanding of fundamentals of electric power systems and renewable energy
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal (written & verbal) skills, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team environment
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills (The employee would be required to draft and review internal documents in English to be used throughout North America)
  • We conduct pre-employment background screening

What Is Preferred

  • Knowledge of ERCOT Electricity Market planning & interconnection practices
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience with one or more power system analysis software packages including ASPEN, TARA
  • Active PE License
  • Graduate level degree with emphasis on Electric Power Systems
  • Working knowledge of automation scripts such as Python
  • Knowledge of other Electricity Markets (such as PJM, MISO, NYISO, ISONE) planning & interconnection practices
