What we need you to bring.
Horizon is seeking an open, enthusiastic, experienced Senior Safety & Reliability Engineer . Your role involves ensuring the safety, dependability, and regulatory compliance of next-generation electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. Working at the intersection of advanced technology and aviation standards, you will be responsible for developing, analyzing, and validating systems that meet the highest safety and reliability expectations in a novel aerospace environment.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to develop high-reliability, safety-critical systems for a Hybrid eVTOL aircraft in accordance with ARP4761
  • Lead safety requirements and assessments for key systems
  • Support or conduct platform-level safety and common cause analyses
  • Contribute to defining and assessing safety requirements at the platform level
  • Represent System Safety in multidisciplinary reviews and regulatory activities
  • Help improve safety processes and methodologies
  • Assist in planning and demonstrating regulatory compliance in coordination with leadership and Certification teams
  • Conduct Zonal Safety Inspections on the platform
  • Perform reliability analyses (e.g., FMEA, FTA, RBD) to identify and mitigate potential failure modes
  • Develop and maintain reliability predictions using industry standards
  • Be an integral part of the team, projecting positive behaviours and influence onto the team
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of the standards and specifications appropriate to the discipline
  • Challenge the status quo, bring new ideas to improve engineering quality, productivity and timeliness of delivery
  • Enforce standards, ensure rigor, resilience and continuous improvement in design solutions, meeting all regulatory requirements, conforming to specifications, quality and requirements within schedule and budget
  • Act as a project integrator and interface between project management and other engineering teams
  • Stay up to date with, and implement the latest developments in your field
  • Drive the continuous improvement of our processes to increase safety and efficiency

We are looking for people that will have the following qualifications and experiences: Demonstrated experience (5+ years) in a Safety Engineering role from aerospace or automotive, having worked across all phases of the lifecycle. Ideally you would have hands on experience with systems engineering, and you will have familiarity with eVTOL Certification regulations from the TCCA, FAA, and EASA.

Location.
We are located just outside of Lindsay, in the Kawartha Lakes area of Ontario, Canada. Our team is onsite at our facility, as a group, a minimum of two days per week. We expect the same from you, and we are mindful of what a realistic commute would be to keep you safe and at your best. We offer relocation allowances in appropriate cases.
We have a growing team in the Ottawa area, who are onsite in Lindsay less often. If you are in the region, please do apply and we can discuss options with you.
